Vi-Shakes & Diabetes

We have been getting a lot of questions about whether or not Vi-Shakes are diabetic friendly, so we decided to write an article about it. In short,
Vi-Shakes are basically a diabetic's best friend! LOL This is one of the reasons  Travis and Ashley decided it was important to take part in an active lifestyle and the 90 Day Health Challenge with Vi-Shakes. Diabetes runs on both sides of their families, and they want to do everything they possible can to ward of that disease for themselves.

If you are a diabetic, losing 10 to 15 pounds may help you lower your blood glucose, blood pressure, and improve your blood fats. Losing weight may also help you cut down on or even eliminate some of the medicines you take. If you are at risk for type 2 diabetes, even a small amount of weight loss could potentially prevent or delay the onset of this disease.

Benefits of Meal Replacement Shakes for Diabetics:
One of the main benefits of using a meal replacement shake is that you know the exact serving size, the carbohydrate count, and the calories. While MRS (meal replacement shakes) are great, I want to reiterate they are not the magic solution that so many look for in an effort to lose fat quickly and build muscle, often resorting to metabolism boosting drinks and diet pills that claim miraculous results. Typically it takes us years to put on weight and body fat from our poor eating habits, so the only way to undo this damage in a healthy way is to develop good eating habits. Meal replacement shakes help to do just that. Diabetics are able to see consistent weight loss results while learning to make lifestyle changes to help keep the weight off for the long haul.A high quality meal replacement shake for diabetics addresses the 3 key common challenges diabetics face when trying to lose or maintain weight:

1. Getting good nutrition while cutting calories.

2. Boosting a tired metabolism and keeping energy levels going on fewer calories

3. Controlling the hunger and stress of dieting.

4. Maintaining Blood Gluclose at optimal levels

For those of you who have diabetes, by injecting yourself with insulin daily can present the hardest challenge when trying to lose weight. The majority of the diet programs available on the market that actually work are not suitable for many reasons; the sugar content alone is way too high, and the food and calorie intake can be too restricted, and way too low.

In today's economy, it cannot be taken lightly that the ViSalus Vi-Shape Nutritional Shake is almost $1 less than most competitive brands. Additionally, ViSalus has introduced 'the refer 3 and get your product free' program which means that you can continue to get your Vi-Shape meal replacement shakes for free month after month.

This information was provided by Audrey Sommerfeld at Visalus Sciences:

Proteins help keep the blood sugars level, as they digest slowly. We have adequate protein (Boost, Ensure, etc have far less) to be a full meal. We also have a full serving of fiber which is helpful. And we have no added sugar which is also helpful. Our glycemix index as a result are very low: Many diabetics worry about the glycemic 'load' of products. Our glycemic load is very tiny. We have 7 grams of carbs (primarily from fiber...which is a great carb!!!)

(7x40)/100=2.8 glycemic load.Compared to an apple that has 6.

How Glycemic Load is Calculated:
The formula for calculating glycemic load is simple. Multiply the GI value of a food by the amount of carbohydrate per serving and divide the result by 100.

Example No 1
Spaghetti has a GI value of 40A serving (1 cup) contains 52 grams of carbohydrate. The glycemic load of spaghetti is: (40 X 52) divided by 100 = 20.8

Example No 2
An apple has a GI value of 40A serving (medium size apple) contains 15 grams of carbohydrate. The glycemic load of an apple is: (40 X 15) divided by 100 = 6
